That being said, together they should have as many as the Iron Islands, Dorne, Crownlands and Stormlands combined, since they should only have about 120,000 men (though the combined Ironborn and royal fleets should be enough to take on the Reach at sea). If they had the Riverlands with them then they might have a chance, but not on their own. I would personally argue that the north should be more powerful, but there are plenty of people who would (reasonably) disagree with that.Įssentially no two kingdoms have ~50% of the total manpower or close enough to it, out of roughly 400,000 the Reach and Westerlands have maybe 150,000 to be fairly generous, but that may be as low as 120,000.
Both logically and in terms of the numbers we see in the books I'm not convinced the West has the second largest military, just over 35,000 men in and they are scrapping the bottom of the barrel, their lands are not that large or fertile, the Riverlands should definitely be more powerful.
